Page Set Up

Top  Previous  Next

Once you have created a new page you need to name, describe and order it. This may seem trivial, a page is just a page, surely ? On the contrary, every page in your website will be Spidered by the major internet Search Engines and indexed so the way you describe your page is crucial in terms of where and how the Search Engines index, rank and feature your website.

INTERACT CMS PRO has an advanced Meta Tag Management system built into every page which highlights the Meta Tag descriptions you create to Search Engine indexing and Spidering mechanisms.

Title

The title will appear in Google and other search engines and is the first thing that will cath the eye of the searcher. Thus, make the page title short, to the point, but with enough description about what the user can find on the page. e.g: Bromley School Events: Football events in 2006-2007

Menu Name

Menu name will appear on the left hand side navigation within the site.

Again, this should be short (two - three words max) as elongated menu names may confuse the user and even disort the design of the web site. e.g. Football 2006 - 2007

Menu Location

Describes where the page should be located within the navigation hierarchy. Pages can be created as Level One section heading pages or on any one of four levels below.

Link URL

A Link URL allows you to create a link that appears on the left hand side navigation but that goes to an outside web site. In this case you WILL NOT need to:

a. Create a page title

b. Create a URL name

c. A meta description

d. Meta keywords

You WILL still need to create a Menu name as it WILL appear on your web site. e.g.

Bromley MyTime

Also, the URL link should be named in full. e.g.http://www.bromleymytime.org.uk

Simply writing www.bromleymytime.org.uk WILL NOT work as the system will wrongly believe that the page exists within its own system.

URL Name

The URL name should really reiterate the Title (as above). However, each word MUST be separated with a dash (-). e.g. bromley-school-events-football-2006-2007

Meta Description

Again reiterate the page Title but allows you to expand on the nature of the page in approx 25 - 35 words. e.g. Bromley School Events: Football events 2006 - 2007 includes all the football events run within the East and West side Bromley partnerships in the past 12 months. Teams played knockout football with the eventually final teams playing a tournament at Crystal Palace.

Meta Key Words

Simply take the keywords from the Meta Description and create a keyword list, with each word or small key phrase being separated by a comma. e.g. Bromley, school, events, football, 2006, 2007, football events, east, west, partnerships, knockout football, crystal palace
